David began his early music studies with piano lessons in the first grade, and while in high school, studied organ with John Holland at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Salisbury, MD. He gave his first organ recital at the age of 14 and appeared as soloist with a local community orchestra in Mozart’s Concerto for 2 pianos in E flat major KV. 365 at the age of 15. David was appointed organist and choirmaster at St. Peter’s in the Great Valley (Paoli, PA) at the age of 17, and soon afterwards became a frequent performer at Longwood Gardens following Clarence Snyder’s retirement as resident organist.
David has studied with some notable organ teachers including Robert Elmore, Harry Wilkinson, Alan Morrison and more recently Donald Sutherland at the Peabody Conservatory of Music.
David’s repertoire now includes a wide range of works by composers from the Baroque through 21st century, orchestral transcriptions, and works based on Gregorian chant and Negro Spirituals. He frequently presents concerts geared toward children and will occasionally include opportunities for audience participation. A gifted accompanist, David is often called on to collaborate with singers and instrumentalists in recital as well as in chamber music programs.
The owner of a two-manual Flemish harpsichord built by Steven D. Jones in 1987, David has frequently played harpsichord continuo for choral and instrumental concerts throughout the area. Recently, he performed Handel’s “Water Music Suite” with the Delaware Symphony and played harpsichord continuo for Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro and Rossini’s The Barber of Seville with OperaDelaware. He has also played continuo for the Baltimore Baroque Band and the Baltimore Concerto Orchestra.
